It's merely just...Running....

OK so here I am a little MIA on the blog. I can say I am busy, stressed with work, and tired. And yes, all these things are true---but- the real reason why I just have not been bloggin lately..

Is because the running thing is not that important right now.

Dont get me wrong, I am still up 2 hours before early every morning (4-4:15, 4:30 if I am lucky) getting my run in, 7-9 miles, sometimes more. Always with friends, never alone.
So on thursdays, I do not have a running buddy...so I don't run.

Sometimes, If I miss a morning session I go to snap fitness and...gasp!...run on the treadmill so I don't miss my afternoon line up of good T.V. So, am I now considered a hobby jogger?

Well, a week or so ago, there was this rumor around that i was "sorta out of shape". I know right? Well, maybe I started the rumor...possibly..but this week I had a kick ass workout with Micah and Elizabeth on mugshots (we dropped some 5:35 miles and some 2:37's for the 800's). A workout like that, is not something I would have been extatic about in the spring or late summer, but after running enough just to stay in shape for months on end...I think that is a pretty good start.

So, another confession..
I have not done a long run in about 4 weeks. So this weekend we went out to the boardtown groupd and worked my tail off to stay up with Drew and Houston. I rooolllleeeeddd through ten miles in 64min, and finished the 13.1 mile course in sub 1:28. Now, still nothing to be extatic about BUT if you consider that the we were only running HARD HARD for about half the run, I think I was at goal half marathon pace for at least 6 miles.

So, what does this all mean? Really nothing unless I have a plan for the spring. And as I kissed my marathon dreams good bye a few months back (chalk it up to a "tight hip" or laziness) I am driving through the middle of nowhereville without a GPS...or running along without any plan what-so-ever.

So what to do?

I dunno, you tell me?

I'm thinking you are running that good, because although you haven't been running as hard as usual you gave your body a rest. Just a thought :)

People have been asking me about my "hip" and what it feels like/ what I do about it. In college I was misdiagnosed with piriformis syndrome and ran hurt 75% of the time. It was not until I was out of college that a chiropractor convinced me that this was definitely not the case.

What it feels like: Besides serious hamstring tightness and a bad achilles, about 3 miles into a race or hard tempo run, my hip starts to cramp along the inside of my hamstring down to my knee. Marathon personal best 5 years in the making

So I've decided to update this blog because someone called me a Grandma.



No, that's not why, but I appreciate the motivation. It's been a year since I've blogged, but I've still been running a lot, and I've been pretty active on Strava. If I remember correctly I logged somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,500 miles of running in 2016, and I hope to log more than that in 2017 if my legs allow it. By the way, I'm also on Instagram, too.
So to summarize my running in 2016 (because after all, this is a blog about running) I believe that 2016 was a pretty good year.  After New Orleans, I attempted a few half marathons and 10ks that went terribly, so I decided to quit road racing for a while and train primarily for mountain running. Just a tired mom rambling

I've been completely stuck (with my running) for about a year now. Even though I was still progressing before I became pregnant with baby #2, I was losing heart.

My life is very full, and putting everything into my running doesn't bring me the joy that it used to. I would much rather put more energy into my kids and my work. It is absolute pure joy watching them grow, play and laugh at the silly things they do. I'd much rather fix peanut butter sandwiches and clean up sticky finger prints then get in an afternoon run. I'm more likely to take a day off then shuffle through a 6 miler just to make a mark in my training log. I'm a parent first, and my mortgage doesn't pay for it's self...so work must come second.

The world needs people to give it their all to reach their goals others may have thought impossible. But, that is just not me.
Quality of quantity. Maximizing hard days. Listening to my coach every step of the way.
